Just curious as to what pressure I should be running my gun at.
I have an old Binks touch up gun, and usually set the copressor to 25-30 lbs.
I recently bought a Finex gravity feed hvlp gun,
and am trying to dial in the pressure, and had some new thoughts.
Should I have a gauge at the gun, and go with the pressure as the gun is operating?
I have been shooting shellac at a 1 1/2 lb cut.
I want to get better results, so I don't have to do so much sanding at the end.
Any advise would be appreciated.
Alan

I pretty much ignore my gauge. I just hold the trigger down and increase the pressure until I get good atomization and pattern. Obviously, I start with the air flow control screw on the gun at stopped. Too much pressure and you're just blowing finish all over the place. Just takes a couple seconds and a couple trigger pulls. This works for me.

Thanks Glen.
That's pretty much what I do.

I run a regulator right at my gun. static feed pressure is usually around 80psi, constant flow pressure is around 25-30 psi. Here is a link to an article i did a little while ago on setting up a spray gun and proper use.
